So western commentators are "outraged" at how "women are treated by Islamic fundamentalists," and indeed, some of the abuses are abhorrent. However, at least they have an excuse of either ignorance of what the Qur'an really teaches, or cultural excess that has continued without moderation.
I suggest, though, that westerners shut their mouths and clean up their own situation. From what I see, many western women, enabled by men, do things that would make Eve blush and that Eve, mother of humanity, would never have considered doing (nor would have responded to if the devil had tempted her in those ways).
o Abortions, especially as it is more casual and with less thought than updating one's wardrobe or getting a new hair style.
o Women teachers who sexually prey on both boy and girl students.
o Women who abuse and murder their own children.
o Women who are neglectful in daycare centers.
o Women who enable their children to use drugs and/or alcohol.
o Women who allow or even encourage their children to have plastic surgery and other beauty "enhancement" treatments.
o Women who know about every diet on the planet but give their infants and toddler children soda pop and tons of fruit juice instead of milk, and then wonder why they are "fat," or have hyperactivity issues.
o Women who bring "lovers" and "boyfriends" into their home who then sexually abuse, beat and even kill their boy or girl children.
o Women who dress their little children like whores.
o Women, whether celebrities or in the community, by life style or as paid promoters, who role model sexualized behavior and demeanor so as to degrade the morality of the young who observe them in public.
o Women who raise their children ignorant of God, and worse, use them in occult or bizarre pagan beliefs, ruining those children's peace of mind for life.
o Women, teenagers and girl children who use the Internet and cell phone cameras to sexualize themselves or violate the privacy of others, and who thus promote a child pornography and visual rape mentality.
So before you get all worried about what the Taliban or fundamentalist Islamists are doing with their women and children, how about a little focus on one or all of those problems? Notice that in fundamentalist Islamic communities, no matter what else you think of them, they are not "struggling" with even ONE of the above issues. And you wonder why they don't want "western women 'values'" in their society? Even the most well meaning and virtuous western woman who tries to intervene in Muslim fundamentalist matters brings with her the taint of all that is happening above in the society at large. It is embarrassing and disgraceful at how low western society has fallen in these extreme matters (and I'm not talking about the age old issues of 'fooling around;' what I list above is the terrible destruction of the feminine as guardian of the young and overall bulwark against depravity and total loss of social anchorage).
Do we want to send the female Sunday school teacher who is accused of raping and murdering an eight year old neighbor to the east to role model "liberated female morality" to the Muslims? I didn't think so.
As Jesus stated, before removing the mote (a very small particle) out of the neighbor's eye, be sure to remove the beam (a huge piece of lumber) from your own eye.

"Hope she's not 'one of ours'" phenomenon
Regular readers know that a while back I blogged about the phenomenon of stereotyping, specifically when one hears of something really bad (such as a crime) one sometimes hopes "Gosh, I hope he (or she) is not 'one of us.'" I related in that blog post that my ex-husband, a secular Jew, would say that when he hoped that some financial scandal was not done by "one of his," and I explained in that blog that the origin of that was about a terrible nursing home scandal many years ago. (You can read my blog article on that topic by clicking on the label "Thank God he isn't one of us," which takes you to an article on subversive humor, though what I am writing about now sure is not funny to me.)
Well, I am not immune, because when I read something that strikes a certain unpleasant chord, I think "I hope that he (or she) is not 'one of us''' and by that I mean Catholic.
I had that thought twice tonight while reading the news and surfing the web. The first time I was safe, and the event I was reading about did not involve the Church. But alas, I saw something truly offensive on a liberal laity Catholic site, yikes, totally cringe worthy. I saw an image that I feel was exploitative and disrespectful of Mary, while claiming to appeal to her values in a specific area of her patronage. I really was shocked and seriously disappointed. And I had the double disappointment, the perpetrator being both a Catholic "one of us" and a woman "one of us." Ugh, that happens a lot, to be honest. Many western women have totally lost touch with not only relating to other women who happen to be traditional, but as a result of that, they have lost touch with the genuine Mary too. Even non-traditional men are actually, in my opinion, better at comprehending Mary, as are traditional women. But modern women seem to, even as they revere Mary, manipulate her, from their base of misunderstanding. That's not cool. That's very not cool. Or as my ex- would say, "That's not kosher either."
I actually decided not to write the little article I was going to post, because if I got readers interested in this topic, I did not want them to Google and come across what I found, as it would just unravel the whole ecumenical point that I was going to make. Yikes.

Why God manifests himself as masculine
This is an important topic, and essential to understanding God's true nature. I've addressed this topic before but I use different approaches to help humans to understand a complex topic. Actually, it's not complex-it is very straightforward-but it is one of God's mysteries. By mystery I do not mean it is unknown or hidden, but rather, it is one of the things that are of the divine that humans find difficult to understand. So here is another discussion of this topic.
Notice that I say that God "manifests" himself as masculine. When I say "manifest" I mean that God chooses to present himself as masculine to humans because that is the most consistent with his nature, even though God is, as Pope Benedict has explained, all things in one, unable to be characterized as being "male" or "female" because he has both the maternal and paternal qualities, being all things and all complete. However, God has consistently presented himself as masculine and "The Father" in Jewish, Christian and Muslim holy books. God always appears in a masculine form and presents masculine characteristics, so one cannot say that it is "sexist" authors or culture to "blame." In fact, this is refuted in the Old Testament where the Holy Spirit is often presented as feminine Wisdom (see the Book of Wisdom). So if God chose to be presented as a female he would have done so, and done so consistently in all the monotheistic books.
So why does God present himself as masculine? Remember that humans are created in God's image, so you can think about the obvious difference between men and women regarding God's primary role, which is the creator of life. God is the creator of life, not the bearer of life. The Bible explains that God is all powerful and whatever God wills is instantly manifest. In other words, when God wishes to do something he does not have to "chant a spell" (follow a formulaic process) or "wait" while his will is gestated (such as the pregnancy of a woman, who bears a growing and changing organism). When God wills something, whether it is the initial creation of the entire universe (think Big Bang, for those of you who like the science connections where possible) or to the small things of communication with humans, it instantly "becomes" done. Jesus taught "God's will be done." This is not a gestation, peculating, waiting process. Whatever God wills is instantly done. That is obvious everywhere and in every way, and is explained over and over in the holy books. That is why Jesus is called "The Word," because God only "speaks the word" (wills something to happen) and it does, such as the conception of Jesus.
God therefore is the "masculine" principle in action, which is the seed from which all comes without waiting, bearing, gestating, working formulas and processes, or being the inert or co-operative container of life. God in his fullness is not compatible with a human perception of him being female because there is nothing about God that is gestating: his will at all times is instantaneous and complete.
Thus feminists and their pussy whipped male enablers have it all wrong when they try to force God's "nature" to be identified as being sexual in nature at all AND in forcing a partial or complete "feminine" ideology on him. God has consistently and always chosen to manifest as a masculine and Fatherly presence in the entire faith history from Adam to Jesus Christ, and also in communication with the Prophet (PBUH) through the Qur'an. This was abundantly clear as not being "sexism" to thousands of years of humans, and it is only this occult and narcissistic ego tainted past several modern generations that willfully do not understand and obey God's obvious strictures about how he manifests to humans. This is not a diminishing of the human female role at all. In fact it highlights the virtue of patience and the slowness of true growth when one looks at feminine biology as a parallel for spiritual growth and maturity. God "creates," God does not "grow." God wills, God does not "bear." God is the seed, and Jesus is the shepherd of the flock, while humans are the ones who are obedient to time, who change and grow in body and mind, from embryo to maturity and hopefully, old age. God is eternal and unchanging, and thus God the Father cannot be linked to the feminine principle of gestation, containment and bearing. God has maternal feelings, as God is the source of all love, of all goodness, of all emotions that humans can aspire to as best as they can. So God is the fullness of all of reality and all of the possibilities, but he does not "nest" them and he does not "bear" them; God wills creation and action and it takes place in the instant of his intention, not over a period of time. Humans take time to fulfill God's will because they are the ones who must grow and change, under the pulse of time, in order to live.
This is why Catholic priests will always emulate Jesus Christ and will always be celibate men. Catholic priests are the vocation of giving their entire lives over to the will of God and emulating Jesus Christ, God's first Christian priest. This is why there is no dishonor in the many other holy offices and vocations available to women. The road of Catholic priest is the one that is taken by those permitted by God to most emulate his will and word with their very lives. Many men do not take that path, obviously, so it is not for everyone. It is a special and sacred calling and it has nothing to do with being "able to live without a family or sex." It has everything to do with being the ultimate narrow path that only a few men among all men will choose.
It also has nothing to do with diminishing the "spirituality" of women. Remember, as I've pointed out, the Holy Spirit, often appearing as a white dove, is often described with feminine nature. This is because the Holy Spirit, who is the breath of God among humans, operates and works "within time" in order to inspire, correct and fortify humans in both their faith and their bearing of life's burdens and joys. So the Holy Spirit, being of the nature of God, has the qualities of God but is manifest in constant interaction among humans, and thus can be thought of as a "bearing" and "gestating" manifestation of God. For example, the Holy Spirit may have to work an entire lifetime on a lost man or woman of the faith, or even of a nation, as we saw with the former USSR, and now we see in the People's Republic of China. The Holy Spirit moves among humans with qualities of patience and love that can be thought of as very feminine and of a spiritual gestation in individual humans and also among their communities. This is also the reason that the Church is described as the bride of Jesus Christ, in Christianity, and in the Old Testament, the faithful as the beloved of God. The body of the faithful, the groups of believing humans, are inspired and connected by the Holy Spirit. Thus there is a valid identification of journey, of child "bearing," of gestation, of "planting a tree" of a church, of being like how ships are often called feminine, because humans are always on a constant individual or communal journey toward God, and that is consistent with such notions and analogous examples. God himself, however, as the Father, is unchanging, complete as is, infinite and unknowable in all his eternal capacity, and instantaneous in his will and his use of his word to manifest anything and everything that he wishes. Thus one cannot think of God in any other way without distorting his nature, thwarting his will of how he presents himself to humans and, in fact, lying about God.

Gov Palin example of famous Bible role model
Something that grated on me during the era of the hippies is that they, especially the women “feminists” would have the nerve to quote one passage from the Bible about themselves. Yes, they would ignore and deny and defame God and the Bible yet have the nerve to cite (including on marketing catalogs and so forth) one single passage from the Bible, in self admiration of their hippy-dippy “artistic skills.” Here is the passage they would smugly quote:
Proverbs 31:10, 13
…She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far about rubies or pearls…She seeks out wool and flax and works with willing hands [to develop it]. (Amplified Bible).
Oh my God, the NERVE! This is an extract of reference to one “artistic” endeavor (weaving) and then breaking their own arms slapping themselves on the back on how they are “worth more than rubies.” I am as outraged by this today as I was when I witnessed this in the 1970’s-1980’s.
Well, I’ve got a shock for you. I’ve blogged the ENTIRE Proverb reading before but I’m going to do it again here and this time ask you: Don’t you think of Governor Sarah Palin rather than some cheap hippy dippy “artiste?”
Proverbs 31:10-31
10. A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman-who is he who can find her? She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls.
11. The heart of her husband trusts in her confidently and relies on and believes in her security, so that he has no lack of [honest] gain or need of [dishonest] spoil.

It is the model of a God fear conservative woman who is described in the Bible, not liberal whack jobs that destroy the family, pimp abortions and work as “design consultants.” Any liberal idiot who actually read the Bible and had some humility would also recognize the elevated role of such a woman and her crucial and dignified role in the faith community, the economy and most importantly her family and household. Conservative women “do it all,” it is the liberal women who are in direct opposition to the model described herein in Proverbs.

It is the model of a God fear conservative woman who is described in the Bible, not liberal whack jobs that destroy the family, pimp abortions and work as “design consultants.” Any liberal idiot who actually read the Bible and had some humility would also recognize the elevated role of such a woman and her crucial and dignified role in the faith community, the economy and most importantly her family and household. Conservative women “do it all,” it is the liberal women who are in direct opposition to the model described herein in Proverbs.

I support McCain's choice of Sarah Palin
You know you can count on me to tell it like it is, and also put things in a proper context so that you can make your own decisions. So here are some points to remember, and not have an automatic liberally biased knee jerk reaction.
1) If someone is intelligent, flexible and of high moral fiber, there is no job they cannot do, including the Presidency. When one has a foundation that is firm, one can make decisions off of that. In evidence I offer the Founding Fathers. Absolutely all they had was the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, since when the country was new, obviously no one had "presidential experience." Yet from the Founding Fathers who had only a firm vision of a republic based in democracy, a piece of paper, and state militias sprang one President after the other in the first days of the United States. The only thing they had in common as "experience" was being a landowner. For most of human history being a landowner was the basis of all political office and "experience."
2) During the "women's liberation" movement, there were few women of "experience," in either politics or academia, or in industry, or high technology positions. Yet no one made women "wait to get their promotions until they have the same experience as men" once the glass ceilings were broken. To "wait" for the "same" or "comparable experience" promotes a kind of mindset that ensures that the pace of the disenfranchised group always remains behind. Women, blacks, Native Americans, etc cannot "wait" until they have exactly comparable years and type of experience as men who have held an office. This is especially outrageous when an "inexperienced" but moral and intelligent candidate is denigrated compared to a "experienced" leader who has made repeated and often immoral mistakes. Do you keep voting a corrupt politician back into office because he or she "has more experience" than the challenging candidate? Think about it.
3) Women's groups back in the 1960's-1980's promised that one of the "benefits" of more women candidates would be a higher morality and more compassion. The most hardened shrew bra burning hippies would even say this. Now they have drawn away from that position because they have discovered that morality implies self control and boundaries on behavior. Thus they have totally reneged on their promise of promoting "more compassionate and moral" women leaders, and instead push those that support tax and spend, hedonism, anti-religion, and self absorption rather than constancy and patriotism. So the very radical "women's libbers" promised more compassion and morality from women candidates and have for the past twenty five years totally run from (and worked against) this model of candidate. Witness their reaction to Sarah Palin.
Let's be honest. Many on the radical left, which controls the Democratic Party and the media, mix up compassion with hedonism. They do not recognize compassion when they see it. A woman like Sarah Palin has five children, including one with a disability that was known of pre-birth, and they act like she's hard hearted. Yet you know that many women these radicals push as "compassionate" would have happily had five abortions. How ironic that five abortions would be viewed as "more compassionate" than five living and loved children in a traditional family setting. If that does not tell you more about what this country has come to, I don't know what will open your eyes.
4) I'm already tired of the "how will she stand up against Putin" and "she won't have respect in the Middle East." Wrong. Here's why. We've had Secretary Rice "Russian expert" for four years or whatever, and what has she given us in foreign policy and respect? Wow, she sure put those Russians and Middle East sheiks in their place. *Yawn.* And how about the Middle East? Many in positions of power are Emirs, Princes, Sheiks, who received their office through tribal and familial position and status. They will respect a moral woman who has many children in a traditional marriage far more than you realize. And this includes the terrorists, by the way, who are often reactionaries against what they view as depraved Western moral values (gee, I wonder why they think that?)
I think many men (and women) have been brainwashed by a false ideal of what "foreign policy experience" really is in truth. Being a wonk and having "traveled the world" does not provide good foreign policy or respect among leaders from different cultures. Yet that idea is pushed over and over even though any dummy can see the repeated failed results in both parties who provide "experienced" UN Ambassadors and Secretaries of States. Most of them have been TERRIBLE and you'd have to be dumb to not see how respect and results have not come from "experience."
5) Many are repelled by her pro life position (and that tells you how much abortion has become the number one hobby and sacrament among liberals, rather than cultivating and nurturing the having of children in stable loving settings). And those people will not vote for anyone pro-life, even if they have no ability to wave a magic wand and turn back time. Yet the other side is expected to be mature and vote for anti life candidates, because we are expected to look at the overall candidate's offerings. So the anti life people get to be "single issue" while accusing the pro life people of being "single issue." For example, I have voted for anti life candidates because I have assessed that they were the person I wanted to vote for at that time in that office, and knowing realistically that they will not "make abortion worse" than it already is due to the public's addition to abortion and lack of familial responsibility and context. So I act like a grown up adult and not vote single issue, yet any pro-life candidate (especially a woman) is instantly rejected with disgust by many of these fanatics rather than admiration! It boggles my mind.
6) I supported Geraldine Ferraro when she was the first nominated Vice President female candidate in 1984 and I voted for her ticket. (I even have her autograph on an engraving from an environmental fund raising benefit). And what was she attacked for during her candidacy? "Lack of foreign policy experience." She was mightily dismissed and patronized to and I hear already THE SAME WORDS, but this time from WOMEN TOO, in the first reactions to Governor Palin from the Democrats. They are saying about Governor Palin the exact same thing I heard throughout the campaign against Rep Ferraro. I tell you, they have no shame.
7) I supported Jimmy Carter when he ran for President, in large part because he had something I liked seeing, which is military experience (submarine service in his case). His terrible management of all military endeavors have put me off of looking for "military experience" in the resumes of Presidential candidates (although I am glad for Senator McCain's honorable service and the high price he paid).
Again, Jimmy Carter is an example of having "experience" in an area is often a boomerang, where they end up being terrible because they think they understand something and they do not. Young people do not remember that Carter tried to "rescue" the embassy hostages in Iran by sending helicopters into a nighttime desert storm with no preparation or understanding of combat and evacuation in a desert setting (something we now have lots of experience in now).
8) I am so annoyed with the obsessing about Senator McCain "dying in office." What if all of you had totally wasted the eight years that Ronald Reagan served as President by obsessing that he would "die in office" and thus only paid attention to the Vice President? And President Clinton had his serious heart ailment just a few years ago; what if that had happened when he was traveling, in office, perhaps had been worse? Would anyone have predicted that based on his age? (Maybe from his affinity for fast food, which was a topic of humor that became tiresome too). All I am saying that this strange culture of death has made people obsessed with "being ready" for someone dying rather than looking at what is actually happening and having some faith that people set into roles that they are suddenly called upon to serve. It's not like they are all alone on a tennis court in a match. Through generations of humanity people have stepped into huge roles when suddenly called to do so, by their country, by their faith, or by their family's needs. It's amazing how much people come through in a pinch, and it's a sign of the depressive negativity of western culture today that no one seems to understand that. (Yet Americans expect people in other countries to throw incumbents out of office that they don't like, and just assume the successor will be "acceptable," "experience" or not).
In a way, Catholics have a better understanding of this because they relate to the sudden thrusting of the office of the Pope onto a cardinal during an enclave, and who truly knows who is "ready" from "experience" to be the Vicar of Christ? Only God, and God sees them through when each candidate in turn receives that office. I wish people would be less arrogant about "qualifications" and more trusting of human character and the ability to step up to a calling or a challenge.
9) Being a fiscal conservative by definition gives a man or a woman a strong leg up in having good judgment. Thus, Governor Palin's strong fiscal conservatism and her stance about ethics in spending will, by definition, be the framework for great decision making that others who lack fiscal conservatism and ethics but have "more experience" lack. Why is this? Think about the family budget. If you have to make hard choices about spending you tend to be more thoughtful about cost and benefit, and the consequences of a bad investment. Tax and spend liberals think they can buy their way out of every problem, and spend little time thinking about consequences of their fiscal decisions. I would take a no experience fiscal conservative over a twenty year tax and spend liberal any day of the week. And Governor Palin has experience, so there you go, figure it out.
10) She has a realistic balance between understanding consuming of natural resources and conservation of natural resources and you better believe that this balance in understanding is alarmingly rare nowadays. This is where hobbies, pastimes and lifestyle are assets even if they are not "experience." The first generations of effective conservationists were farmers, hunters, and other consumers of natural resources who also understood how to preserve and enhance our planet and its ecosystems. Many who claim to be "green" today are so wrapped in plastic and lack genuine understanding of how humans are part of the ecosystem, yes, but also are at the top of the pyramid. Many "greens" today would shudder at actually getting their hands dirty, and thus lack an understanding of some of the realities of life. I grew up with the generation of environmentalists who actually viewed themselves as being alive and part of the ecosystems as both stewards and consumers. I've seen that generation replaced with a very freaky intellectual view of being "green" that is anti-human and also totally ineffective in doing the dirty work to protect the environment (like building sewage treatment plants; they'd rather worry about carbon in the air than actually take care of real problems that are not so glamorous and certainly do not offer money mining opportunities through scams like "carbon credits.") The oceans are dying because people won't build toilets for a billion people and to control wastewater and run off but boy oh boy, they want to jet around lecturing about a theoretical problem with carbon while cashing in on it. Governor Palin's lifestyle shows that she has the balance and understanding just right and that is a very rare commodity that cannot be measured as "experience," but is in truth even better than what passes for modern day plasticized "experience."

Women are not to be consecrated clergy
I don't know how many times I have to repeat this, and how much simpler to make it. The Catholic Church correctly identifies priesthood as the continuation of the example that Jesus Christ, first priest, established, which is the celibate male priest completely dedicated to God.
I'm tired of the un-Christ oriented arguments that these 'women advocates put forth.' It is all about Christ and there should be no priest who ever forgets that.
I don't care if one of the disciple's Aunt Angie's grannies' oldest daughter had a responsible position in the early Christian church. That does not change one iota that the priesthood is entirely modeled upon and follows the footsteps of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Here is the final statement I will blog on this subject, because it is tiresome and feeds the self pitying ego of those who push for 'women clergy' instead of being oriented toward the integrity of the Church. (The sight of women showing off their priest costumes disgusts me, and I do not mean to be unkind, but I can only be honest and truthful. I want to retch whenever I do not page fast enough and actually see one of their snapshots.)
If Jesus had intended for women to be priests, the Blessed Virgin Mary would have been heard from in the Scriptures as a voice of authority after Pentecost. None of you can claim to do what she did not.

The Bible on the Dignity of Women
The first line of this section has been quoted many times, often at weddings, and then the rest of it is dismissed by many as "quaint" or "sexist." Nothing could be farther from the truth. Read the entire section and see how you feel if you were to know a woman like that, as a friend, or a family member. How would you feel about this woman if she were you? I know that a woman who feels like the woman described in these scriptures would have a serenity and a dignity, yet still be every bit as "interesting" and "self realized," in a way that is lacking in today's society where women are complicit in their own coarsening, and as a result, in their own depression and lack of self worth.
Proverbs 31: 10-31
When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls. Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize. She brings him good, and not evil, all the days of her life. She obtains wool and flax and makes cloth with skillful hands. Like merchant ships, she secures her provisions from afar. She rises while it is still night, and distributes food to the household. She picks out a field to purchase; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She is girt about with strength, and sturdy are her arms. She enjoys the success of her dealings; at night her lamp is undimmed. She puts her hand to the distaff, and her fingers ply the spindle. She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy. She fears not the snow for her household; all her charges are doubly clothed. She makes her own coverlets; fine linen and purple are her clothing. Her husband is prominent at the city gates as he sits with the elders of the land. She makes garments and sells them, and stocks the merchants with belts. She is clothed with strength and dignity and she laughs at the days to come.
