Margaret the Barefooted (died circa 1395)

Born of a poor family in Italy.
Married at 15.
Was abused by her husband for years.
Responded to the ill treatment by praying for years and performing acts of penance in patience.
Received her name because she would go barefoot when begging for alms on behalf of those even poorer than herself.
