CANBY — Two Canby High School students who were playing hooky are held on felony animal-abuse charges after a female mallard duck was mutilated in the city park.
Canby Police were notified Thursday by a witness that the two, ages 15 and 17, threw rocks at nesting ducks, hitting and stunning one of the birds.
They then tried to cut its head off and pulled two eggs from the duck while it was still alive. One then hit the duck several times with a rock, and they tried to cut and pull the intestines from the duck.
The witness reported that he saw one of the suspects throwing eggs from the duck at people in the park, police quoted the witness as saying.
