Continuing comfort to Piper Alpha families

May God, and the Lord Jesus, continue to comfort the survivors and the families of those who were lost in the Piper Alpha oil rig disaster, twenty years ago today.

I remember it but did not recall the name of the platform or the exact date and year until I just saw a BBC video interviewing some of the surviving men.

My thoughts and prayers are with them. Many people do not understand how long and incomplete recovery from such a trauma can be.

I don't make a common practice of commemorating disasters on the blog, or otherwise so far as making an effort to associate a day with a mood of sadness. But I want to comment that I am always close to "the working bloke" who is doing a job trying to get by and support his family. When I read about accidents that take the life of construction workers, sanitation guys, and the whole group of men and women who "keep the world's essential services going," I grieve whenever one is lost, say nothing of as in this scope of disaster where 167 workers died.
