This is a really good article in the Chicago Trib.

Ignore the usual moronic comments in the comment section, where some people have a self control problem.
I want to repeat a point I've made before. Do not forget what is called the "multiplier effect."
Suppose a particular chemical is tested to be "safe" at small doses.
The problem is that everyone is exposed to hundreds of products, EACH ONE at their "safe dose."
So you have safe dose 1 added to safe dose 2 added to safe dose 3 added to safe dose 4 added to safe dose 5 etc etc until you have hundreds of "safe doses" added together. Some interact. Some do exactly the same damage and have a compilation effect on the body, compounding one on top of the other. Plus some safe doses may open the door for another safe dose to do damage (such as triggering a genetic disposition toward being affected by one or more chemicals). This is called the "multiplier effect" and it is a fundamental concept that the well informed consumer must understand about pollution, toxins, the environment and product safety.
So it is bogus that companies can test for individual safe levels of individual chemicals and then declare that there is no overall risk. Of course there is overall risk because each dose of a toxin adds together according to exposure, and there is no escaping toxin exposure now. Yes, companies need to measure individual "safe" dose exposure but agencies must start using computer models to recognize that all the "safe" doses are adding together in harmful combinations and in unmeasurable and unpredictable future effects. People MUST start eliminating toxins and other unnecessary chemicals in their food and products.
