'Catholic Church isn't hiding apocalypse secret'

The only surviving witness to a decades-long conspiracy theory has firmly denied the Catholic Church is hiding details about a predicted apocalypse.

Archbishop Loris Capovilla, 91, said there was no truth in the rumour that the Vatican was suppressing a vision of the end of the world.

The vision said to have been revealed 90 years ago by the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children on a hillside at Fatima in Portugal.

The rumours swelled when the then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict, gave an interview in 1984 suggesting that the secret concerned "the dangers threatening the faith and life of Christianity, and therefore the world. And also the importance of our ultimate days".

Today Mgr Capovilla, who witnessed Pope John XXIII opening the envelope of the third secret, said: "There are not two truths from Fatima and nor is there any fourth secret.

"The text which I read in 1959 is the same that was distributed by the Vatican. I have had enough of these conspiracy theories.

"It just isn't true. I read it, I presented it to the Pope and we resealed the envelope."

This is the text of the third secret which is the cause of so much speculation:

VATICAN CITY, JUN 26, 2000 (VIS) - Given below is the complete translation of the original Portuguese text of the third part of the secret of Fatima, revealed to the three shepherd children at Cova da Iria-Fatima on July 13, 1917, and committed to paper by Sr. Lucia on January 3, 1944:

"I write in obedience to you, my God, who command me to do so through his Excellency the Bishop of Leiria and through your Most Holy Mother and mine.

"After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendor that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: 'Penance, Penance, Penance!'. And we saw in an immense light that is God: 'something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it' a Bishop dressed in White 'we had the impression that it was the Holy Father'. Other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big Cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God."

As Pope John Paul II truthfully affirmed, the white Bishop was indeed himself as Pope during the assassination attempt of May 13, 1981.

My additional comments to make this clear and stop fruitless speculation and unseemly “hoping” for by some who seem to wish for violence and apocalyptic destruction. (“Rapturists” “alien fantasizers” and “New Agers/psychics”).

The big city half in ruins and half trembling and the souls of corpses he met on the way represent the millions of aborted babies. Christian Europe, for example, has aborted itself into decline. We know this because statistics already show that entire cities and countries are under populated because of abortion. For example in the United States it is known that the Afro American population is 25 percent less than it would be if they had not been aborted. And a reminder that every time a baby is aborted, not only is the soul rejected and sent to heaven by the aborting humans, but so is the accompanying guardian angel, of course, who escorts the aborted infant back home. Is it any wonder that Mary showed the trembling of the ruins? (That is what is also shown in the Bible when one remains tilling in the field and one is gone. This is not rapture in the way certain non Catholics present it, but as the people who should be there, but are gone. The only virtuous and pure are the aborted babies who have no chance to live.)

The dead religious people represent the affliction of the Church and loss of vocations and the seeming victory of the “culture of death” and secularism.
