Mini blog: what demons and jin are

An individual demon or jin is a specific line of "thought" or "focus of attention" by satan.

For example, an alcohol demon would be the thread of dysfunction that springs from the good survival instinct of humans, who in ancient times discovered fermentation prevented some bacteria and promoted food safety, but then takes control so that there is no "off" switch. So alcohol abuse is of satan but is one thread in satan's warping of what is God given for survival into a demonic relationship with the substance.

This is why Jesus would cast out demons, not satan himself, because satan is never in "full force" in an individual human being. Humans pick up individual strands of temptation from satan and those are demons or jin.

Greed is another example of an individual demon or jin that may rule a person. It is the warping of the survival instinct to hoard, combined with predatory mentality (to be on the hunt to take away sustanance from another).
