Bible Reading: 4 Kings 3:27

Then he took his oldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation in Israel, and presently they departed from him, and returned to their own country.

[This poignant passage relates how a wicked king, being defeated in battle by the Israelites and their ally, killed his own son, one that should have been king instead of him, in order to sacrifice him to obtain "luck" in the lost battle. This so disgusted the Israelites that they quit the battle, after having defeated the forces of the wicked king and returned home.]
