A typical sad baby murder

When I was growing up in the 1950's this would have been a rare horror story. Now not a day goes by that we don't read a story like this.

Baby's death brings 14-year prison sentence for father
by KY3 News

SPRINGFIELD -- A man from Springfield pleaded guilty on Monday for the death of his baby son last March at a motel. Prosecutors believe Jeremy Worley threw 8-month-old Landon Eitel to the floor, causing injuries that killed the boy.
In an agreement with prosecutors that a judge accepted, Worley pleaded guilty for child abuse resulting in death and received a 14-year prison sentence. Prosecutors say, by law, Worley will have to serve at least 85 percent of the sentence.
If he'd gone to trial and been convicted, Worley could have received a prison sentence between 10 and 30 years. Prosecutors charged him last May with child abuse resulting in death or, in the alternative, involuntary manslaughter.
Prosecutors say Worley and his family were living at Marigold Inn on South Glenstone Avenue in Springfield. Police said Landon’s death resulted from many injuries, including a skull fracture, several compressed vertebrae and several broken ribs. Police say Worley admitted in an interview that he threw Landon down when he was alone with Landon and Landon’s 2-year-old sister.
A detective wrote that Worley said he was upset because his girlfriend, Lacey Eitel, worked as an exotic dancer and he had to take care of the children. The detective wrote in a probable cause statement that Worley reenacted how he threw the boy to the floor. Police interviewed Worley twice before Landon died.
Landon died on March 12, three days after an ambulance rushed him to a hospital from the motel, where the couple and the children had lived for three days. A medical examiner says Landon died from abuse over a period of time, including a skull fracture, bites, broken ribs and internal injuries.
