Many through the ages have wondered why the number seven is so special to God. The reason is very straightforward. The number seven represents the One God over all the pairs of life. Visually it is thus:

The three pairings represent male and female pairings that are the manner through which life continues. The one represents the One God from whom all life originates. This is the reason seven is such a special and holy number. So even when the number seven is used for singular quantities, it is chosen as the number because of what it represents here.
This does not mean it's a "lucky" number, any more than any other number is lucky or unlucky. It is a significant and holy number if one understands why.
