[I love this psalm by King David, on the subject "Humble Trust in God." It is a gentle gem from the priest king who could be so warlike.]
Lord, my heart is not proud;
nor are my eyes haughty.
I do not busy myself with great matters,
with things too sublime for me.
Rather, I have stilled my soul,
hushed it like a weaned child.
Like a weaned child on its mother's lap,
so is my soul within me.
Israel, hope in the Lord,
now and forever.
[Notice that here, the King of the Israelites, who rules the entire kingdom, says he does "not busy myself with great matters, with things too sublime for me." Here King David is distinguishing between his wordly rule, which would be considered by anyone as "great matters" and the truly great and sublime matters of God. I think often about David and sure enjoy re-reading his words.]
